There are a lot of myths out there about boot repair, whether it's about comfort, durability, or even what's possible. But the truth is the majority of boots can be brought back to life, refreshed and even improved in some cases.
In this guide we are going to bust some of the most common misconceptions about boot repair and show you just how much life your footwear still has left.
Repairing a Boot WILL NOT Make it Uncomfortable
Professional boot repair services take every measure to ensure comfort is not just retained but often improved.
When soles and heels are replaced, it reinforces the boots structure, enhancing support and comfort. Insoles and linings are also replaced or refurbished to ensure comfort without altering the fit.
A repaired boot will also already have been previously worn in, so you will not have to go through the adjustment period that can come with buying brand new footwear, meaning repaired boots can be even more comfortable than buying new.
Repairs DO Last
Boot soles, especially those made of rubber or leather, will typically last between 12 to 18 months with regular wear, but this can differ depending on usage, terrain and quality.
A resole will last around the same amount of time, therefore will significantly extend the life of your footwear, potentially doubling the lifespan.
We use high grade Vibram soles on the majority of our resoles, and even have the official branded components from a selection of globally renowned brands. This is to ensure our repairs last and look the part.
Repairs ARE Worth it
Obviously if you have cheaper boots repairs may not be worth it for you. But for any mid to high end footwear repairs are definitely worth it.
Soles can be replaced, as well as other components from your well loved boots such as zips, buckles and straps. Get your footwear repaired and double the life of your footwear for a fraction of the price of buying new.
Most Soles CAN be Replaced (Even Trainers)
You do not need fancy stitching like a Goodyear welt to resole a shoe, unlike many people think.
Vibram actually actively promote using their soles for repairs on a wide range of footwear, not just welted boots. Walking boots, dress shoes and even trainers can all have their soles replaced with new sole, tread and heel units suited to their style.
You CAN Repair Uppers
Sole replacements aren't the only repairs that can be done on your footwear.
If your uppers have taken some wear and tear they can also be repaired. From stitching repairs, to elastic panel, strap, zip and buckle replacements.
Leather and other upper materials can also be cleaned and conditioned, restoring your boots to their original condition and giving them a new lease of life.
The Cork Filling DOES NOT Always Have To Be Replaced
Many people believe the cork has to be replaced when resoling footwear with a cork filling, however if the cork is still in good condition it can be left in place.
After carefully removing the old sole a new tread can be placed over the cork, restoring the sole without removing the cork bedding.
Repairs ARE NOT Only For Old Or Damaged Shoes
Many people believe shoe repair is only necessary for old or severely damaged shoes. However regular shoe maintenance is crucial in prolonging their lifespan of your footwear.
The glue used by shoe manufacturers will eventually wear out meaning soles can start to separate from the rest of the shoe, even when relatively new.
Your footwear can also be customised, switching up the sole with a new style or colour can revitalise your boots and give them a whole new look.
